Rodgers Statement on Senate Action on the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act

02.28.22

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement about the Senate’s consideration of the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act:

“The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act is not the will of the American people. It’s extreme. It allows for abortion during any stage of pregnancy up until birth and for any reason, including on the basis of a baby’s sex, race, and disability.

“This extreme bill does not reflect the science or modern medicine. Because of technology today we can see a baby develop day-by-day. Doctors are performing pre-natal surgeries and treating unborn babies as patients. The science tells us their lives are worth living.

“The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act is more radical than Roe. Under this bill, viability is whatever the abortionist deems it to be. It allows for any late-term abortion regardless of the welfare of the mother or the baby. It has nothing to do with women’s health, and everything to do with ignoring science to force an extreme position on all of America.

“I’m disheartened today that just like all but one Democrat in the House, Democrats in the Senate are also embracing this extreme and discriminatory pro-abortion agenda. More lawmakers need to find the courage to say ‘enough.’ There should be bipartisan support to respect the dignity and potential of every person’s life.”

“We must stop the Abortion on Demand until Birth Act and uphold our values for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.”
