Leader Rodgers on American Energy Security and Lowering Costs

We need to flip the switch on American energy. We need to restore American energy dominance.

House Energy & Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) spoke with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo Tuesday morning to talk about the high costs the American people are paying for gas.

Watch her interview here and see the key excerpts below.

“We need to flip the switch on American energy. We need to restore American energy dominance. That’s the best way that we bring down the cost of gas and the cost of diesel. As we’ve heard, it’s absolutely impacting people’s pocketbooks and families.”

“Costs were going up even before the crisis in Ukraine. This only underscore the importance of flipping the switch, saying ‘yes’ to American energy.

“That’s why I’ve introduced the American Energy Independence from Russia Act which would say ‘yes’ to American energy, to the Keystone pipeline, and to lifting the restrictions on LNG so that we can export to Europe.”

“America has abundant energy resources. We need to unleash American energy to help families, to help our economy, and to help push back. It’s also one of our greatest weapons against Putin in Ukraine and his aggression.”

Leader Rodgers also spoke at a House Republican press conference on energy security and affordability led by Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) and Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks (R-IN).

“Energy security is national security. We need energy for everything that we do.

“You cannot be a diplomatic power without being a military power. You cannot be a military power without being an economic power, and energy is foundational to all of that.

“This morning, the Republicans continued to echo what we did on day one of this administration. When the Biden administration chose to cancel the Keystone pipeline, on day one, cancelling this pipeline that would have allowed us to import from Canada, our neighbor, our friend to the north, rather than being dependent upon Russia.

“In fact, Russian imports have doubled under this administration.”

“This legislation would require that the administration first submit a plan as to energy security which has to be at the forefront. It also means that we would say ‘yes’ to more pipelines in North America, ‘yes’ to the Keystone pipeline.

“We would lift the restrictions on exporting LNG from the United States. Europe currently gets 40% of its natural gas from Russia. We should be giving them a choice where they could be receiving LNG from the United States.

“We need to start the leasing on federal lands.

“This is how we shut down Putin’s war chest. This is how we stand by Ukraine, protect our national security, and create jobs here in America.”

“Americans are now suffering under the highest gas prices ever. It’s driving up the cost of everything we do. It’s estimated that it’s a $1,300 per year increase for every American.”
