Leader Rodgers: A New Day for Hope and Healing for ALL Life

House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today overturning Roe v. Wade and affirming the American people have the right to speak through their elected officials to enact laws that protect unborn children.

At a press conference today led by House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Leader Rodgers shared the story of Chloe whose life is worth living. Rodgers said Democrats’ radical and extreme agenda to nationalize abortion on demand until birth will overturn laws that protect people like Chloe with Down syndrome.

“First of all, I thank God for this day. Thank God that his mercies are new each day and He is the giver of life.

“I ask, for the next 50 years and beyond in our country, how are we going to define the greatest human rights issue of our generation?

“This Supreme Court decision marks a chance for us to restore hope and healing for every family — for moms and their children at every stage of life.

“May it begin with each one of us doing our part to protect and celebrate all life in the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever known.”

“However, Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats are forcing an extreme agenda on America with their Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act.

“It would nationalize abortion all across this nation — making America just as radical as China and North Korea.

“It legalizes discriminatory abortions at any stage based on a baby’s sex, race, or disability.

“It overrides state laws that protect women from coercion.

“There is no part of this that celebrates the dignity, value, or potential of human life.”

“I think about my friend Chloe, a beautiful and smart young woman with Down syndrome.

“She’s already spoken before the UN twice to tell the world, ‘Embrace, don’t erase Down syndrome.’

“She’s helped pass laws at the state level that when parents receive that pre-natal diagnosis of having a baby with Down syndrome that they would actually get accurate information as to the potential of that life.

“Democrats want to eliminate laws like Chloe’s.

“We must stand up together and say enough.

“The Court affirmed today that every life is worth living.

“My prayer is that America will reclaim our identity as a nation whose God given rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

Leader Rodgers also joined Fox News with Sandra Smith and Trace Gallagher to share her reaction to today’s ruling.

Below are key excerpts and highlights from the interview:

“This is a victory. The Court is affirming that every life is worth living. The Court affirmed that the Constitution is silent on abortion and that Roe is unconstitutional.

“[Now], the elected representatives and senators will debate this issue at the state level on behalf of the American people.

“Really, the question before America today now is… how are we going to respond? How are we going to approach what is the greatest human rights question before us as a nation and as a people?

“I believe that this is a moment where we must bring hope and healing to our country. We need to bring hope and healing to many moms and children and affirm that every life is worth living.”

“At the state level and in Washington state, Governor Jay Inslee has already made pretty clear his intent that Washington state would be a sanctuary state for those that are seeking abortion.

“It really falls into line with what Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats have been moving here on Capitol Hill.

“Last fall, they passed a bill that would allow for abortions up until birth on demand for any reason and it would really have an effect of nationalizing, federalizing abortions for any reason, whether it was the baby’s sex, [race] or disability.

“It would put us in align… with countries like China and North Korea. That seems to be the approach that Speaker Pelosi and governors like Jay Inslee are advocating, very radical.”

“For many who had been advocating for life for decades, just a big thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the pro-life movement in United States of America to affirm our God given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

“This is a this is a day to celebrate. This is a day to affirm those God given rights.

“It’s really a defining moment for the United States of America. My hope, my prayer, is that we will reclaim our identity as a nation who cherishes life at all stages.”

“This really is a defining time for America. Every single person is going to have to ask that question again about what they believe about life. It’s not the same as it was nearly 50 years ago.

“Technology, science has evolved. We know, we know, every stage of life from conception.

“We know that at 15 weeks a baby can feel pain, that a baby can suck its thumb and move its fingers and toes around.

“We know that this is a life. This is a human being, a person, and it must be the policy of the United States of America to protect that life, to celebrate life, at every step.”
