BREAKING LAST NIGHT: Democrats in the Senate STOPPED a bill yesterday that would add sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Their votes to help Vladimir Putin build his pipeline and expand Russian energy influence in Europe came after President Biden sent top officials to lobby and block the sanctions.
House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement:
“Once again, Democrats are green lighting Russian energy while at the same time shutting down American energy and forcing sky-high costs on families. Rather than address the energy crisis here at home, Democrats are doubling down on emboldening Vladimir Putin to expand Russia’s stranglehold over Europe’s energy economy. It’s another stunning insult to Keystone XL pipeline workers who are still looking for work after President Joe Biden cancelled their jobs.”

Here’s what more Energy and Commerce Republicans are saying:
President Biden is standing up for Putin, not the American people. https://t.co/yCzT5pi6tt

While @POTUS @JoeBiden @SenateDems block U.S. #pipeline projects like #KeystoneXL, they have no problem supporting #Russian #pipelines like #NordStream2. This clearly shows where their priorities are. https://t.co/ZDmMYrpFGl

In June, Leader Rodgers was joined by 67 of her colleagues in a letter to President Biden blasting him and his administration’s Russia-first – America-last policy after he waived sanctions on Nord Stream 2.
This isn’t the first time Democrats refused to even criticize Nord Stream 2. Every Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted in June against an amendment introduced by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) that would condemn the pipeline.
“As one of his very first acts, President Biden revoked the key permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, which was critical to our energy security and a top priority to our Canadian allies,” Rep. Duncan said at the time. “It is truly baffling and illogical that President Biden is willing to green-light Russian energy projects over American energy projects and jobs.”
