Leader Rodgers: Religious Freedom Extends to All
Washington, D.C.—House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s plan to roll back conscience protections for America’s health care workers.
“President Biden’s decision to double down for more command and control by rolling back conscience protections is about forcing extreme positions on the American people, like abortion on demand until birth. This is wrong and dangerous. No one can be coerced by the federal government to violate their religious and sincerely held beliefs. That is a lesson that the President, and certainly Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, should have learned from the Little Sisters of the Poor’s victory in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court upheld their right to serve the poor without being forced to violate their conscience. Our health care workers shouldn’t be treated differently.
“In America, religious freedom is constitutionally guaranteed. It’s an inalienable right that our nation was founded upon for people to live, act, and speak according to their core beliefs and values. It must be extended to all.”
