WASHINGTON, DC – The Energy and Commerce Committee today released the second video from its “Personal Stories from the Opioid Crisis” video series.
The series debuted Wednesday morning, highlighting participants from a recent roundtable discussion hearing directly from individuals who have felt the devastating effects of this epidemic.
The first video, released Wednesday, featured a compilation of the roundtable’s panelists. The video released today introduces you to Aimee Manzoni D’Arpino. At the roundtable, Aimee shared the story of her son, Emmett, who lost his battle with substance use disorder in 2016.
“Emmett was my first born. He was the child that taught me to be a mom,” reflected Aimee.
Discussing the scope of the opioid crisis, Aimee explained that Emmett wasn’t “a junkie, an addict, he wasn’t a bad kid. He was a good kid that had a disease.”
As fellow roundtable participant, Kathy O’Keefe told committee members, “This is family,” and it’s why we must press on in our fight to combat the opioid crisis.
