WASHINGTON, DC – This week Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), Co-chair of the House Grid Innovation Caucus and member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, shared remarks at the “Grid Innovation and Infrastructure” EXPO event.
The biennial EXPO displays innovative advances in America’s electric grid infrastructure. Electric and manufacturing companies from across the country display new projects and technologies to create a safe, modern and smarter grid. “Smart” buildings and transportation electrification were the focus of this year’s EXPO exhibits.
Latta spoke on the importance of hearing from companies to ensure Congress does not write laws to inhibit innovation.
“We have to be careful that we don’t write legislation and then have regulations following it that would hamper on what you are going to be doing and what you want to innovate in the future,” said Latta at the EXPO.

The EXPO was co-hosted by Edison Electric Institute (EEI), GridWise Alliance and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
Last Congress, E&C’s Powering America hearing series explored the ongoing transformation of the nation’s electricity industry and the technological innovations that will strengthen the grid and provide greater value to American consumers. And the Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, then-chaired by Rep. Latta, held a hearing to examine the ways that communities across the country are tapping into new technology.
