A Natural Gas Tax is a Tax to Heat your Home

10.26.21

There’s an energy crisis in America, and President Biden’s radical energy agenda is to blame.

As families brace for the most expensive Thanksgiving in the history of the holiday, they’re also preparing for heating bills that are expected to surge this winter. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects Americans’ natural gas bills to average $746 this winter, 30% more than last year. Keep in mind, inflation is already at a 13-year high, and the price of gasoline has reached a 7-year high. These are rising costs that hit seniors and low-income families the hardest.

Bottomline: Americans can’t afford President Biden’s reckless energy agenda.

To make matters worse, Democrats are imposing a “Heat your Home Tax” – a tax on natural gas – in their radical tax and spending spree. Nearly half of the homes in the U.S. use natural gas for heat. It’s predicted that the tax could raise families’ bills $242 per year and eliminate as many as 90,000 American jobs.

The “Heat your Home Tax” is an attack on families trying to keep their homes warm, good-paying jobs, and reliable American energy.

President Biden promised that he wouldn’t raise taxes on Americans making less than $400,000, but with Democrats’ natural gas tax, he’s breaking his promise and imposing a tax on ALL Americans and across our entire economy.

Democrats’ tax and spending spree will only make the American energy affordability crisis worse. Leader Rodgers offered an amendment during the tax and spending spree markup that would have eliminated the natural gas tax, saving Americans from unaffordable energy bills and job loss. Democrats rejected the amendment.

Look at what Energy and Commerce Republicans have to say about the Democrats’ “Heat your Home Tax.
