DOE Modernization

Department of Energy Modernization

The nation's energy landscape has changed dramatically since the Department of Energy was created in the 1970s amid energy scarcity and global market turmoil. We need to ensure that the department's organization and missions are aligned with the security and energy challenges of the 21st century – from its continuing nuclear security responsibilities to the geopolitical benefits of energy abundance to the emerging threats of the cyber age.

This hearing series will identify targeted policies to ensure effective execution of the agency’s core missions, and mission-enabling science; to update antiquated authorized programs to focus on these core missions; and to ensure effective, efficient management of the agency to meet the national security, energy security, economic, and environmental cleanup imperatives of the coming decades.
